Britain’s motorists are being hit in the pocket with the world’s fourth most expensive diesel, research suggests.
Currently averaging £1.41 a litre, the price for diesel in the UK is still riding high – and 86p of that price per litre is fuel duty and taxes.
The research from Looking4Parking.com and This is Money reveals the most expensive diesel hot spots in the world, and looks at affordability and average monthly incomes in these locations.
European countries account for nine out of the top 10 most expensive diesel prices, with Norway coming in first place; charging an average of £1.50 a litre.

Although it may appear that our Scandinavian neighbours are getting a rough deal, high monthly salaries seem to compensate for the extra expense; meaning that diesel here is relatively affordable.
Norway’s sky-high wages mean that only 5.2% of an average monthly salary is spent on fuel, compared to the UK’s 7.9%.
When solely looking at affordability of fuel, the numbers paint a different picture.
In Hungary, while the price for litre of diesel is only £1.20, it costs almost 30% of the average monthly salary to pay for it; making it the least affordable place to buy diesel in the world.
