Multimodal Logistics of Felixstowe has completed a 13-truck order from Volvo Truck and Bus Centre East Anglia, Felixstowe.
The order was finished with the delivery of three Volvo FH-500 6x2 tractor units. The new trucks will be used for container duties, either from port or serving freight rail terminals inland.
Tim Wray, general manager at Multimodal Logistics, said: “We have seen rapid growth over the past two years.
"We changed our business model back in early 2013 and took the decision to expand the business portfolio, which started with the delivery of five Volvo ‘Classic’ FHs in July of that year.
"With these latest deliveries we now operate a fleet of 28 FHs and have a business that is able to support multiple customers delivering a full ship-to-shelf service throughout the UK and Europe.”
Multimodal Logistics uses fuel consumption as one of four factors that contribute to the company’s monthly driver performance bonus scheme.
“We log tachograph records, attendance, accidents and fuel consumption as the basis for the scheme,” said Wray. “I would say having fuel consumption as one of the determining factors really makes our drivers think.”
“It encourages the use of cruise control and good driving practices. This, in turn, reduces accident damage, makes the whole operation more efficient and improves the working environment for our drivers. It also highlights driving styles and habits, on the back of which we have taken advice from driver trainers at Volvo Trucks to further drive down fuel consumption."
All the trucks are on three-year fixed term leases with Volvo Financial Services. Maintenance is carried out at Volvo Truck and Bus Centre East Anglia, Felixstowe and all the trucks are covered by Volvo Gold repair and maintenance contracts.
