Ravenscroft Motors has successfully defended a false insurance claim using camera footage, saving at least £6,000 in repair costs.
The Hampshire-based roadside assistance and vehicle recovery specialist, used Intelligent Telematics’ IT1000 3G vehicle camera to prove their innocence.
A motorhome driver claimed that one of the company’s Renault Midlum car transporters had jumped a red light causing a crash at the A331 Interchange near Frimley, Surrey. However, video evidence taken from the camera, fitted inside the vehicle’s cab, conclusively shows that the motorhome was in fact responsible for the collision.
“The cost of repairs to our vehicle alone was more than £6,000, so the overall claim could have reached over £15,000 had we not been able to challenge this false driving allegation,” explains Martin Brimson, transport manager at Ravenscroft Motors.
Ravenscroft installed the camera on 70 vehicles in its fleet last year.

I had all our 80 vehicles fitted with camera and thankfully I did. Early hours of the morning back in December 2015 a driver of a BMW overtook one of our vehicles and slammed on his brakes coursing our driver to crash into the back of his vehicle. When our footage was sent to our insurance company, it transpired the other driver was also insured with the same company as us so was unable to claim for injury or repairs to his vehicle for deliberately coursing the accident. The camera footage defiantly saved a very lengthy and expensive insurance claim.
