Reading-based Vehicle Weighing Solutions (VWS) is the first company in the UK to be approved by the National Measurement and Regulation Office to verify its own bin weighing and underbody weighing equipment for Pay-By-Weight services.

The company is a specialist in vehicle on-board weighing, axle overload protection and bin weighing.

Julian Glasspole, managing director of VWS, said: “This is superb news, not just for us but also for our customers as we can provide a more efficient service. We used to have to call in Trading Standards to verify each and every Pay-By-Weight system. Now we can test and calibrate the equipment ourselves.”

To become authorised to carry out self-verification under the Measuring Instruments Directive and Non-Automatic Weighing Instruments Directive, VWS was required to become an approved manufacturer.  As part of the audit process the company first needed to achieve ISO9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 accreditations, to confirm its commitment to quality traceability, continual improvement and environmental management.

“All our engineers are now UK Weighing Federation trained and we have achieved the necessary Quality and Management accreditations. It has involved a great deal of time, effort and resources but is very much worth it. We are delighted to be the first to be given this licence in the UK,” added Glasspole.
