GEM3D, a subsidiary of GEM Engineering, has launched a new vehicle segregation screen service to help operators get their fleets back on the road and protect their employees.

The mechanical engineers have created a system for capturing 3D vehicle scans data that enables the design and manufacture of screens, which facilitate safe vehicle sharing.

Produced at its own facilities, GEM3D’s process involves capturing vehicle data using metrology grade equipment, before creating a productionised 3D CAD model to send through to manufacture. The production department use the data to cut the profiles using CNC machines to ensure a perfect fit, says GEM3D.

James Argyle, managing director at GEM3D, said: “Our service is suitable for any industry or operator that has a duty of care to employees that vehicle share and are looking to save on the costs of hiring additional vehicles to maintain social distancing, which we know has been the case for many businesses out there.

“The pandemic has caused all sorts of questions for businesses and challenged the importance of considering colleague’s wellbeing over commercial decisions. However, due to the accuracy of our laser scanning we can accommodate any type of vehicle, so operators should be confident of being able to get their fleets and colleagues back out there in a controlled and safe way.”

The business says it already has stock available for the most popular vans in the market, including the Ford Transit, Vauxhall Vivaro and Movano, as well as the Peugeot Boxer, and is also offering a bespoke service to produce a screen for any vehicle type, including a technician to fit the screens where necessary.

Prices start from £595 for commercial vans with more complex vehicles increasing in price and economies of scale on offer for larger fleets.
