Witney Neighbourhood Policing Team have been loaned a Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) for the next six months, by Humphris of Oxford.

The team of PCSOs, based at Witney police station covers the surrounding villages as well as the town itself, and PCSO Tracy Waller said the environmentally-friendly Outlander PHEV would help the officers get out into the community more.

She said: "Having the Outlander PHEV will help our Neighbourhood Policing Team be more visible in the community, which is great. It means we will be able to get out to incidents in rural areas much quicker. It’s brilliant for us and we are really grateful to Humphris of Oxford for lending it to us - it’s a big help."

Previously the team of nine PCSOs and four neighbourhood officers only had one car available, and a van they could only use during the day as it was needed by another part of the Thames Valley force every evening.

Waller added: ‘This is the first hybrid vehicle that Thames Valley Police have got and they are really interested to see how it works for us, in terms of the fuel consumption and the savings we make. We are trying to save money and having the Outlander PHEV will help with that.’
