Alfa Romeo has launched its new rear-wheel drive Giulia saloon.

A range of engines will power the new Giulia with a bespoke unit created for the top-of-the-range Quadrifoglio version.  A V6 turbo petrol powerplant delivers 510hp, propelling the Giulia Quadrifoglio from 0 to 62mph in 3.9 seconds, while also offering an electronically-controlled cylinder deactivation system. The six-cylinder unit is made entirely of lightweight aluminium.

Further details on lower performance engines have not been released to date, but Fleet News sister title Car magazine believes the line up will include a 2.0-litre petrol In 178bhp, 247bhp and 326bhp guises, 2.2-litre diesel in 133bhp, 178bhp and 207bhp guises and a 335bhp 3.0-litre V6 diesel. Car adds that the vehicle is based on the platform used for the Maserati Ghibli.
