BMW has unveiled an all-new 2 Series Active Tourer, which will be available with two plug-in hybrid engines and more passenger space.
The compact MPV is available to order, priced from £30,265, and will arrive in the UK in March.
Initially a pair of mild hybrid petrol and a diesel engine will be offered.
BMW says the new model comes with an array of innovations previously reserved for its larger, more expensive models.
The interior features a similar layout to the brand’s new electric models, with fewer switches and a larger central infotainment screen.
Under the skin, the 2 Series Active Tourer shares a platform with the 2 Series Coupe and Gran Coupe, plus the X1 and Mini Countryman.
In keeping with BMW’s new styling trend, the new car is equipped with large front grilles and sleeker door handles.
The entry level 220i serves up 170PS and has CO2 emissions from 133g/km. A more powerful 223i model provides 218PS, with emissions from 137g/km. Prices for the latter start at £32,715.
A single diesel option, the 218d, provides 150PS and 125g/km for a starting price of £31,820.
From the summer, BMW will also offer the 225e plug-in hybrid with 245PS and all-wheel drive. A second model, the 230e, will serve up 326PS. BMW says both models will provide a zero-emission range of up to 49 miles and support 7.4kW charging.
The new 2 Series Active Tourer will be offered in Sport, Luxury and M Sport specification. Sport includes 17-inch alloy wheels, Sport seats with anthracite cloth upholstery, LED headlights, high-gloss Shadowline exterior trim, and Parking Assistance with reversing camera and Park Distance Control as standard.
Luxury cars feature 17-inch V-Spoke alloy wheels, Aluminium exterior trim, Vernasca leather upholstery, and heated front seats.
The M Sport package introduces a distinctive front apron design, 18-inch Bi-colour alloy wheels, Adaptive M Sport suspension, Adaptive LED headlights, folding exterior mirrors, Sport seats with Alcantara/Sensatec upholstery, Luxury Instrument Panel, heated seats, Comfort Access, and wireless charging.
