Rightcharge wants fleets to help unlock EV tariff savings

Rightcharge has launched an industry-wide call for collaboration from fleets and industry players to explore solutions to unlock electric vehicle (EV) tariff savings.

With the increase in the energy price cap, which came into force yesterday (April 1), the cost of home charging on a standard tariff has risen to 27 pence per kWh, an 8.7% increase from the previous price cap set in January 2025. 

For businesses managing growing numbers of EVs, reducing fleet-wide costs via home charging is becoming increasingly important, says Rightcharge. 

EV tariffs present a huge opportunity to lower these costs. Dual-rate tariffs, such as EV tariffs, provide off-peak rates as low as 6-7p/kWh, which is up to 80% cheaper than standard tariffs.

For a fleet of 1,000 electric van drivers charging exclusively at home, the uptake of EV tariffs could deliver potential savings of up to £1.2 million annually, or £1,200 per driver. 

However, while these tariffs can significantly cut fleet-wide charging costs, they may also raise the non-EV portion of a driver’s home energy bill. 

Without incentives, Rightcharge argues that company car and van drivers will not switch to EV tariffs, leaving fleets that reimburse home charging stuck paying standard rates and missing out on fleet-wide home charging savings of up to 80%. 

In an attempt to solve this challenge and reduce the total cost of ownership for EVs, Rightcharge is launching a call for collaboration across the industry.
