Smart will expand its electric car line-up with the new #5 SUV.
The new car, which will be the third model in Smart's line-up, is due to launch in Europe next summer.
It is the brand's largest car to date, competing with the Ford Explorer and VW ID 4.
The #5 will be available with a 100kWh battery and a predicted range of around 350 miles. It can charge from 10% to 80% in 15 minutes, using 800v electrical architecture.
A smaller battery option is also likely be offered.
Dirk Adelmann, CEO of Smart Europe, said: “We are delighted to present our first-ever mid-size premium SUV, the all-new smart #5, to the world. With this new vehicle, we are expanding into a new market segment, reflecting our commitment to quality, innovation, and addressing the evolving requirements of our customers. As we continue to broaden our product lineup, we remain focused on providing diverse mobility solutions that cater to different lifestyles and preferences in Europe and around the globe.
"This vehicle represents not only a new level of premium for smart but also an opportunity to explore new possibilities in the realm of electric mobility.”
The Smart #5 concept was designed by Mercedes-Benz. It has a boxy and more rugged appearance to the existing Smart line-up. The car has an overall length of 4,705 mm.
The interior features a pair of 13-inch infotainment screens, along with a smaller digital instrument cluster.
A key feature will be a state-of-the-art tool by the generative AI specialists, Cerence. This integration enables the driver and passengers to engage the virtual in-car assistant in entertaining conversations. It uses intelligent in-vehicle interaction technologies powered by AI to provide accurate and relevant answers to almost any question imaginable.
Drivers are able to control key functions with their voice alone, including phone calls and messages, music and media, air conditioning, navigation, personal settings and vehicle control, as well as access information such as weather, news, calendars, general knowledge and more.
Prices for the Smart #5 will start at around £35,000.
