MG is “excited” by the potential its new MG4 electric hatchback has to broaden and increase its fleet customer base.
The hatchback has P11D prices starting from £25,940 and three versions are offered at launch: the SE Standard Range, the SE Long Range and the Trophy Long Range.
The MG4 EV Standard Range uses a 51kWh battery and will be capable of 218 miles range on the WLTP cycle. Long Range SE and Trophy Models will be capable of 281 miles and 270 miles respectively, thanks to a 64kWh battery.
A 449PS all-wheel drive version called Mulan, capable of sub-four second 0-62mph acceleration should arrive in UK showrooms next year.
Geraint Isaac, head of fleet sales at MG, which will be exhibiting the new MG4 at Fleet & Mobility Live on October 11-12, said: “From a fleet perspective, we really are excited about this car.
“It's obviously a brand-new model, it's designed from the ground up as an EV, and it's packed with the technology that fleet drivers want to have in a car.
“What excites us more is the breadth of sectors in the fleet market we think we can attract with this car.
“As it’s an EV it will have obvious appeal from a taxation and carbon footprint point of view.
“That's obviously a big thing, but it also straddles between B and C segment hatchback sizes, but it's actually a big car inside and because of that there are lots of opportunities for families to have it as their only car.
“Salary sacrifice is also going to be a big area for us, and we’ve already had significant interest shown in the car from leasing companies and end-user fleets who are talking about committing orders already.”
Isaac says pricing guides have also given the MG4 strong residual values, with CAP saying it will retain around 60% of its new value after three years/30,000 miles.
This performance is also reflected in data supplied by Kee Resources, which provides the information for the Fleet News Company Car Tax Calculator.
Isaac said: “We’re really pleased with the RVs. This will make it competitive on leasing and outright purchase, but obviously leasing more than anything.
“However, this is not something that's just happened. We’ve worked very hard with the pricing experts over the past couple of years, knowing that this this new car was coming and knowing that this was a sort of a milestone for us, not just as MG as a manufacturer, but particularly with fleet as well.
“The hard work we put in with them to get them to understand what we're about and the channels of business we're in has obviously paid off.”
MG’s registrations were 75.9% up year-to-date to the end of July, at 28,149 units, and the manufacturer expects to end this year with a total volume of around 50,000.
The MG4 is the first model built on the manufacturer’s all-new platform and Isaac added “there will be a number of new models coming over the next 24 months but they will be in different sizes, different designs.
“There is a lot more to come: this is an exciting time for us.”
