Volkswagen is expanding the line-up for its recently facelifted Golf and has detailed the pricing and range for its plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models.

The facelifted car benefits from new driver assistance systems, revised styling and an enhanced specification. There's also a fresh infotainment system.

PHEV models feature an all-new powertrain, based around a 1.5-litre petrol engine. Battery capacity has almost doubled, with the new Golf using a 19.7kWh unit.

The Golf eHybrid will be priced from £36,760 and offers an electric range of 89 miles. It develops 204PS and comes in Style trim.

GTE models cost £39,750 and have more potent acceleration, with 272PS delivered from the powertrain. These versions have an 84-mile electric range.

Charging times are improved thanks to 11kW AC charging and 40kW DC charging.

Both Golf PHEVs sit in the 5% benefit-in-kind (BiK) tax band.
